Star Shuttle contracts a full service DOT / DMV compliance and safety company to conduct yearly audits of our safety and maintenance programs. As a result, these audits have allowed Star Shuttle to grow into one of the safest, most efficient and state of the art fleets in the industry.

 

 

 

We have implemented and currently conduct mandatory safety classes to properly train our drivers in every facet of safety and risk management.

 

These classes are mandatory for every new driver, as well a refresher class once per quarter for all existing drivers. Our safety classes are conducted by an outside approved DOT agency to ensure our Drivers are getting the finest training, and become familiar with every aspect of what to look for during a pre-trip inspection, as well as during a run, if a problem with the vehicle should arise. Our DOT Safety classes consist of lecture, video instruction and a written exam which all employees must pass, in addition to a practical examination of actual school busses to determine what if any problems are evident.

As we all know, drivers are our first line of defense in determining problems with our vehicles. Each day, at the beginning of each bus run, all drivers complete their 30 point pre-trip inspection that includes but is not limited to, checking brakes, steering mechanics, horn, tires and all signals. In addition to our driver’s inspections, our mechanics routinely check oil, water and other fluid levels. Every driver, before every run is required to complete this inspection before the bus leaves our facility. All results of the inspection are noted, documented and given to the office for recording. In addition to regular inspections, it is policy to “spot check” at least 2 busses per day from our fleet. These “spot checks” are full DOT / DMV 70 point inspections preformed by our in-house mechanics.

Finally, criminal background checks are preformed for all employees prior to their date of hire. In addition, we contract an outside agency to perform and monitor random drug testing of all employees once per month. During this test we screen a percentage of employees for illegal substances as well as review their DMV abstracts. We have found this random screening for both illegal substances as well the reviewing of driving records very effective.
